Kayaker’s Encounter With Killer Whales Leaves Her Shaking
A day of kayaking off of San Juan Islands , Wa ended up being what we could call a miraculous day.
The day began with a somewhat uneventful kayak launch in late August. Michelle Feis and her kayaking guide headed out about 9:00 am. Little did they know that they would encounter multiple large pods of killer whales. As it turns out, they did.
Trying to maintain an safe distance form the whales, they maneuvered their kayak near the cliffs and stopped paddling, but the whales were everywhere. They were somewhat unavoidable. In fact, a large pod directly approaches them full on and couple of them passed directly beneath their kayak. One of the whales made direct eye contact with the kayakers.
What a frightening adrenaline rush for Michelle as she experienced a kayaking dream come true day.
